Snapped: Hodor’s Rave of Thrones, Los Angeles
Kristian Nairn, otherwise known as Hodor from HBO’s Game of Thrones, brought his epic Rave of Thrones progressive house night to downtown Los Angeles club Exchange on Wednesday and hauled the zealous legions of LA’s Cosplay ravers onto the dancefloor.
As you’d hope, the crowd was a colourful mix of Game Of Thrones characters such as Daenerys and Jon Snow, with the odd smattering of three-eyed crows and ambiguously medieval stragglers looking to get in on the Cosplay the action. The Exchange, which was once the Los Angeles Stock Exchange in a previous life, had its long hallways decked out in a castle motif, and the main room was lit up with ominous ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ themed visuals.
While the Northern Irish DJ/actor is certainly riding the Game Of Thrones wave on this tour, he’s been behind the decks far longer than he’s been in front of the camera, and is quick to quash any thoughts that he’s just another celebrity DJ.
“Game Of Thrones of course has been a massive help, but I’ve been DJing for 17 years,” said Nairn, who at 6’ 10” has to be one of the tallest DJs in the business. “I know that people are very quick to condemn celebrity DJs. When I was a DJ people told me, ‘You can’t act, you’re a DJ’. Now I’m an actor people tell me, ‘You can’t be a DJ, you’re an actor’. Now I’m like, ‘Fuck you, I don’t care. I can DJ and if you don’t like it you can fuck off.’”
And there’s certainly no doubt that the big man can throw down when he’s hunched over the decks. His deep progressive house sets get straight to the point of making the big rooms bounce and getting the swords up in the air, and we’re going to start seeing some more original productions coming through from Kristian early next year.
